The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) has identified alternative trekking trails in the famous Annapurna Region. ACAP started exploring new trails after popular trails in the region were shortened with the construction of motorable roads.

Narendra Lama of ACAP´s Pokhara Office said the new routes assure magnificent views of different mountain peaks. “Trekkers can also enjoy cultural diversity while on these routes,” added Lama.

These new trails can be completed in two to eight days. The trail from Tanting of Kaski to Bhujung of Lamjung can be completed in five days. Similarly, the other trail, which starts from Bhujung and ends in Dudhpokhari of Lamjung, can be trekked in four days. The other route will begin from Sikles of Kaski and will end at Timang of Manang.

The longest route, which spans eight days, starts from Khudi of Lamjung and ends at the secluded Nar and Phu villages of Manang.

According to ACAP, all the new routes will be away from the Beni-Jomsom and Beshisahar-Chame road sections.

“As these road sections have hampered trekking in the region, we explored new routes away from these dusty roads,” Nar Bahadur Amgai, a senior conservationist with ACAP, told Republica.

Amgai said ACAP will work in coordination with Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Trekking Agencies´ Association of Nepal, Nepal Tourism Board, and District Development Committee of the concerned districts to develop the trails.

More than 100,000 trekkers visited the Annapurna region last year.
