Jalbire, the starting point for this trek is a five hour bus ride from Kathmandu towards the Tibetan border. We travel through a mixture of beautiful mountain scenery and the terraced fields and characteristic houses of rural villages from different ethnic groups.

You will spend your first night experiencing the ‘Newari’ culture of Jalbire. Your Guide will give a short talk on trekking, altitude sickness and the highlights of the trek. These include the holy Bhairav Kund, the incredible Himalayan scenery and the life style of nomadic people unchanged by time.

Outline Itinerary

  • Day 1 : KATHMANDU – JALBIRE (APROX.1000M)
  • Day 2 : JALBIRI- CHANAUTE
  • Day 3 : CHANAUTE-KHANI GAON
  • Day 4 : KHANI GAON- REST DAY
  • Day 5 : KHANI GAON- FOREST CAMP
  • Day 6 : FOREST CAMP- PATI
  • Day 7 : PATI- BHAIRAV KUNDA
  • Day 8 : BHAIRAV KUNDA- BHAIRAV KUNDA TOP - SHERPA GAON
  • Day 9 : SHERPA GAON- LARCHE (APROX.1400M)
  • Day 10 : LARCHE – KATHMANDU
  • Day 1 KATHMANDU – JALBIRE (APROX.1000M)

    It is a nice scenic drive with Mountain View. It takes about 3 hrs to get up to the place called Balephi. It is good road up to Balephi and after Balephi it takes about 2 hrs bumping road to Jalbire. If the road is bad from Balephi to Jalbiri and the bus could not go then we need to walk from Balephi to Jalbiri for about 4 hrs. Jalbire is a nice newary village, which is situated at 1000m. One this day you could see the newari culture and the Hindu temple of Lord Bishnu and camp.

    Driving: 5 Hours (Kathmandu to Jalbire)

    Height: 1350 M (Kathmandu), 1000M (Jalbire)

  • Day 2 JALBIRI- CHANAUTE

    It is about 4 hrs level walks from to Chanaute. On this day you will pass through small Tamang village. Chanaute is a small Braman and Chettri Village. When you reach Chanaute you are going to camp by the school of Chanaute. You could enjoy the Mountain View from your camp side.

    Walking: 4/5 Hours

    Height: 1200M (Chanaute)

  • Day 3 CHANAUTE-KHANI GAON

    It is six hours of walk from Chanaute to Khani Gaon. Most of the part you will walk steep up and some part you will find small walking trail. On this day you will be passing through mixed villages, stream, local school. Khani Gaon is a Newari Village. Khani mean “ source of Mines” and Gaon mean “Village”. On the middle of 18th B.S, before Nepal was united there was a flight between Gorkha and Bhaktapur. The people of Bhaktapur came to this place to save their life and they settle down there. There is also a local school in this Khani Gaon. You could see excellent Mountain View from camping side.

    Walking: 6 Hours

  • Day 4 KHANI GAON- REST DAY

    Explore the culture and tradition of the Newari Village.

  • Day 5 KHANI GAON- FOREST CAMP

    It is steep up walk through Rhododendron forest for about 6 hrs. On this day in some places you could see nomad houses for cattle and if you are lucky you could see some wild animals and birds. Camp in the forest.

    Height: 3150M (Forest Camp)

  • Day 6 FOREST CAMP- PATI

    It is also steep up walk through pine, Rhododendron forest for about 4 hrs. When you reach pati you could see the rest houses made for pilgrimers. You could see nice Mountain View from the camp.

  • Day 7 PATI- BHAIRAV KUNDA

    It is about one hour up hill walk and then level walk for about two and half hrs to Bhairav Kunda. Bhairab Kunda is 4150m high and there is a big holy lake and a small temple of lord Shiva. “Bhairab” is destructive form of lord Shiva and Kunda mean “Lake”. Once in a year in June/July pilgrimers from different part of Nepal come to take holy bath and worship here.

  • Day 8 BHAIRAV KUNDA- BHAIRAV KUNDA TOP - SHERPA GAON

    Early morning walk up hill for about one and half hour to the top to see the sun rise and close Mountain View of langtang, Jugal himal range, rolwalling range and Tibetan range. After Bhairab Kunda you will trek steep down for about 6 hrs through forest to Sherpa village.

    Walking: 6/7 Hours

    Height: 4500M (Bhairav Kunda Top),2500 M (Sherpa Gaon)

  • Day 9 SHERPA GAON- LARCHE (APROX.1400M)

    It is steep down walk for about 3 and half hour to the bank of the bhote Koshi River called Larche. We will camp here and walk for about 30 minutes to the natural hot spring, where you could take hot shower and back to camp.

    Walking: 3/4 Hours

    Height: 1400M (Larcha)

  • Day 10 LARCHE – KATHMANDU

    It takes about six hours scenery drive back to Kathmandu
