The Chulu West (6250m) expedition is the most challenging for climbing and expeditions and will appeal to those looking for a real adventure. Previous climbing experience is not essential but a very high level of physical fitness is required. Ascent of Chulu West and Chulu Central are best made from a base camp in a small valley north of Manang situated off the main trail to Thorong La pass 5416m.
Trek through to Manang and then ascend to Chulu West Base Camp to begin our assault on the mountain. The climb is long and very challenging and it is necessary to establish two high camps on the mountain prior to making a summit attempt. The return route crosses the Thorong La to Muktinath and on to Jomson, from where we fly to Pokhara, for a day of relaxation before flying back to Kathmandu.
Go beyond the hut following the yak pastures and walk up a ridge which leads into a hidden valley where it is possible to find a good site for base camp. From this camp another camp will be at High camp. Climb the rock band with some difficulty to the north-west shoulder of Chulu west. 5450, where another camp can be established or we can make a alternate camp at snow plateau above 5500m.
