The Helambu region is a relatively low altitude trek and one of the most convenient of the short trek close to Kathmandu but crowd less. For a spectrum of Nepali people and the Himalayas , the Helambu trek is unrivalled. The trek passes through some beautiful forests and very interesting villages on route. As the journey progresses you visit the homes of Brahmins, Tamangs and Sherpa people of Nepal .

In Helambu region the Sherpa are quite distinct from the Sherpas of Solu khumbu(Everest region) both in language and customs. However we go along the south ridge through Sermathang, down to the river at Melamchi, the site of a mega project to bring drinking water to Kathmandu via a series of tunnels. The trek concludes with a drive down to Kathmandu via Panchkhal, after a night’s camp at Melamchi Bridge.
Leave for full day sightseeing in Kathmandu valley includes the Hindu temple complex at Pashupatinath (a UNISCO world heritage site) & the biggest Buddhist Stupa at Boudhanath. A short drive to Sundarijal. Trail climbs steeply past Tamang villages and on through rhododendron forest to Chisopani. Excellent views over the whole Himalayan range from Manaslu to Everest.
Trail goes gently through terraced fields, tiny hamlets and stretches of grassy open hillside stay over night there.
A steady climb through prickly leaved oak forest with excellent views of the mountains and the Helambu valley when we arrived at Tharepati Rise early for excellent close up views of Gosainkunda and surrounding high mountains.
A short, steep descent through mixed fir and rhododendron forest rich with bird life. Crashing waterfalls sound from the rocky gullies below as you approach Melamchi.
The trail descends steeply to the valley floor, where you can have a well earned dip in the crystal- clear river before completing the short and mild ascent up the other side of the valley. Tarkegyang boasts an 18 th century Gompa with huge brass prayer wheel.
