Jiri Everest Base Camp Kalapathar Trek

This region is relatively underdeveloped compared to the trail from Lukla onwards. The trek provides an insight into the many traditional aspects of the lives of the different ethnic groups of the area — Tamang, Kami, Brahmins, Kshetri & Sherpa. We enter a Sagarmatha National Park ” “ Sagarmatha is an exceptional area with dramatic mountains, glaciers and deep valleys.

Dominated by Mount Everest the highest peak in the world. The park shelters several rare species, such as the snow leopard and the lesser panda. The presence of the Sherpa’s with their unique culture, adds further interest to this site.”Kalapathar (5545m) offers the best vantage point for viewing Everest. Tengboche Monastery, the focus of Sherpa Buddhist devotion, sits at an elevation of 3,867n with Ama Dablam (6856m) as a magnificent backdrop.

There are many options for additional exploration and high-altitude walking, including the crossing of Cho La, a 5420m, hike to Gokyo Ri. Strenuous trekking is continuously rewarded with dramatic Himalayan scenes, including four of the world’s highest peaks: Cho Oyu (8,201m.), Makalu (8,463m.), Lhotse (8,516m.) and Everest (8,848m)
