Mt. Annapurna I Climbing Annapurna I (8091m) is located on the Annapurna massif of the Himalayas, in North-central Nepal. Annapurna I is the 10th highest mountain peak in the world. Annapurna is a Sanskrit name that can be translated as Goddess of the Harvests or more simply the Provider. The mountain has glaciers on its western and northwestern slopes, which drain into this gorge.
Four summits make up Annapurna with the entire massif forming a barrier on the northern side of the Pokhara Valley in Nepal. The main summit stands to the west of the Annapurna Sanctuary. The major peaks on the Annapurna range is Annapurna I (8091 meters high), Annapurna II (7937 meters), Annapurna III (7555 meters), Annapurna IV (7525 meters), Gangapurna (7455 meters) and Annapurna South (7219 meters)
The mountain was climbed by Maurice Herzog and L.Lachenal on June 3 1550 in first time. It takes a more 20 years to attempt this mountain again.Chris Bonington’s team 1970 ascent of the South Face of Annapurna and Two American women, Irene Miller and Vira Komarkova, have reached the summit via the North Face in October 1978.
